RAILROAD COMMISSION OF TEXAS: RULING ON WHETHER NATURAL GAS CONTAMINATED

It was noted in a previous blog item, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (“EPA”) Region 6 office had issued a Safe Drinking Water Act Emergency Administrative Order to Range Resources (“Range”) that concluded the natural gas in certain domestic water wells was likely to be from the same source as gas produced from Range’s wells.  In addition, the Emergency Administrative Order alleged that Range caused or contributed to methane in nearby water wells that were subject to a Railroad Commission of Texas (“Commission”) hearing.  The EPA Region 6 action received a great deal of regional and national attention.
