New York has many succesfully producing wells. The US DOE has a nice summary.
According the summary:
New York State in 2009 had 6,628 producing wells. Most of which were conventional wells
Our state imported 640,119 mcf of gas in 2009
What is at issue in NYS is not how gas it produces/uses but how gas production - in the form of horizontal hydrofracking of shale will be regulated - if it is allowed at all.
What's at issue in Otsego County is how local land use and road controls will be applied to that potential industrialization.
Yes, these figures are mostly from natural gas extraction from conventional sources. Would you support discussions on conventional natural gas extraction from natural gas reservoirs in your town?
